Andy Williams MSyl
Founder & Lead Instructor
Security, Risk & Crisis Management
Andy is a senior security, risk, and crisis-management practitioner with over 30 years’ experience working across humanitarian, NGO, commercial, and conflict environments.
He has held senior leadership roles including Global Head of Safety & Security, Country Security Manager, and Regional Security Advisor, supporting operations in complex and high-risk contexts including Afghanistan, Iraq, Ukraine, Syria, Palestine, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and across the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
His work focuses on practical, judgement-based security management — bridging policy, operational reality, and human decision-making under pressure. His experience includes crisis leadership, duty of care governance, acceptance-based security, access negotiations, contingency planning, incident management, and safeguarding integration in both active conflict and post-conflict environments.
A British Army veteran, Andy transitioned into humanitarian and NGO security leadership, where he has designed and implemented organisational security strategies, led crisis management teams, trained international and national staff, and advised senior leadership on operating safely, ethically, and in alignment with humanitarian principles.
As a trainer, Andy is recognised for a calm, pragmatic, and inclusive delivery style. His programmes prioritise real-world judgement, structured decision-making, and the preservation of life over simulation-based theatrics. Training is grounded in lived operational experience and designed to equip participants with the confidence and clarity required to make proportionate, defensible decisions in complex environments.
Andy is the Founder and Lead Instructor at Peritus Global Training, delivering bespoke security, risk, and crisis-management programmes to NGOs, humanitarian professionals, and organisations operating internationally.
